5 Easy-Care Houseplants to Liven Up Your Space

Are you a houseplant newbie? Or maybe you’ve had houseplants in the past but you just don’t have enough time to care for them? Either way, this post is for you.

Most of my clients are busy and don’t have a lot of time to spend on plant care. So I decided to list out my top 5 recommendations for easy-care houseplants. All of the plants on this list are hardy, low-light tolerant, and don’t need frequent waterings. Take a look below for some easy ideas to liven up your space!

5. Chinese Evergreen (aka Aglaonema)

These plants have large, patterned leaves and won’t complain in low-light situations. They don’t need water frequently – in fact, their stems can rot if they sit in wet soil for too long. I recommend cactus soil with some pumice or perlite mixed in, for a quick-draining blend. Mine gets water once every two weeks or so (depending on the light and season).

4. Monstera deliciosa

If you’re looking for a large-scale plant to set on your floor, this guy is it. The leaves can grow really large in bright-light situations, but they’re perfectly content in a low-light spot too. Mine gets water once every 2-3 weeks depending on the season, and it grows SO FAST!

3. Pothos (aka Devil’s Ivy)

This plant is gorgeous in a hanging basket! I have several different varieties, and they all tolerate lower light situations really well. All of mine get water once every 2-3 weeks, and they seem to be really happy, with lots of new leaves popping out all the time!

2. Snake Plant

By far one of the hardiest houseplants you’ll find. I have one sitting on my mantel in a room with hardly any natural light, water it once every 3 weeks or so, and it’s STILL GROWING. Pro tip: if you put yours in a brighter spot, it might need water more frequently than that (more light = more water).

1. ZZ Plant

This plant might as well be a succulent. It has tubers on its roots, so it can store water for quite a while! Mine gets water every 3 weeks or so, and just recently put out 4 new shoots. They don’t need much light to survive, though they’ll grow bigger and faster with brighter light. I love their waxy leaves, too!

I hope this list helps you find the confidence to pick up a new plant the next time you’re at the store! Bringing plants into your space adds so much life, and it’s so much fun to watch them put out new leaves under your care.
