Dual Bathroom Remodel in South Land Park

Located in Sacramento’s South Land Park neighborhood, this dual bathroom remodel proves that you don’t need a lot of space to make a big impact. We had so much fun giving each of these bathrooms its own unique personality! One is dark and moody, and the other is light and bright, but both are vibrant and full of character.

We knew the primary bathroom would be the biggest challenge. Its cramped layout and enclosed shower made the tiny room feel even smaller, and the direct view of the toilet from the bedroom was less than ideal. Rather than expanding the room, we made every existing square inch work harder. By swapping the locations of the vanity and toilet and repositioning the door, we created a more practical and more visually appealing layout. Additionally, we chose a wall-hung toilet to save water and some much-needed floor space. We also removed an unnecessary soffit and reclaimed some unused space behind the shower wall to add a built-in bench. And to let in more light, we opted for a pony wall topped with glass between the shower and toilet. Although the actual floor space didn’t change, we dramatically increased the natural light and sense of openness.

And we haven’t even gotten to the materials yet! Inspired by the client’s love of color, midcentury modern design, and bohemian influences, we decided to go bold. Deep emerald green star and cross tiles match the painted bathroom walls for a color-drenching effect. The crisp white floor tile and a ceiling provide balance and contrast to the overall moody space. And a custom wood vanity and gold fixtures add just the right touch of warmth.

In the secondary bathroom, we took the opposite approach. The existing layout already worked well for our clients, so we focused on materials, texture, and personality. Full-height walls of arched, white tile make the room feel larger, while geometric rust-colored floor tiles and some blue-green accents add playful pops of color. The same gold fixtures, wood vanity color, and light fixture style help to give the two unique bathrooms a sense of cohesion.

Together, these fun and colorful bathrooms demonstrate how strategic space planning and bold material selections can completely transform the experience of a space.
