What is LEED?

If you’ve spent a little time researching sustainable design practices, you’ve probably heard the term LEED thrown around. It sounds important. But what does it mean?

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. In a nutshell, it has to do with sustainability in the building industry. As a  LEED Green Associate (LEED GA), I’ve studied the basic standards for green building, and passed an exam to prove it. If I choose to continue my education, there’s a next-level exam that would make me a LEED Accredited Professional.

 

So what’s the benefit of working with a LEED Green Associate?

Basically, if you value sustainability in your remodel, I’ve already weeded through a lot of the details so you don’t have to. I’ve started a knowledge base for eco-friendly building technologies and green interior design practices to use during your project. And I’ve learned about building codes related to energy and water efficiency, which can also help to save you money in the long run.
