Studio Connolly Turns One

It’s official, Studio Connolly is a year old! I can hardly believe it.

When I launched on November 16th, 2020, I was excited…and absolutely terrified. Even with over 5 years under my belt as a practicing interior designer and project manager, I had no idea what to expect when branching out on my own. Plus, everyone kept telling me “don’t expect to be successful your first year.” Which was meant to be helpful, I’m sure, but only added to the anxiety.

 

As it turned out, though, I picked the perfect time to jump in. As I’m sure you all know by now, this industry is BOOMING. The first couple of months of the year were a little quiet, as expected. But then out of nowhere, I reached max capacity for new projects! It was crazy and wonderful all at once.

One of my biggest goals in starting this business was to bring more sustainable practices and materials to the Sacramento interior design world. The learning curve has been steep, because there’s a huge gap in the market and the information provided on products and packaging is often lacking. But I’m continuing to build my knowledge base and incorporate as many environmentally conscious practices as possible. And in the process, I’m pushing my suppliers to become better informed, too!

 

What’s next for Studio Connolly?

Next year I’ll be signing up for the exam to become a LEED Green Associate; another environmental tool for the tool belt. And I’m constantly looking for ways to improve my systems and strategies, so keep an eye out for bigger and better things on the horizon. No plan to hire anyone yet, but…who knows?

Devin and I are also planning on taking a couple of big trips out of the country, so expect to see loads of design inspiration from abroad!
