Terracotta Cottage

An Arden-Arcade Great Room

This Arden-Arcade great room was a blank slate when we first started on the project, and needed all new furniture. The 1947 home also had one of the strangest-looking brick fireplaces we’d ever seen. So we painted it! The black brick allows the brighter colors in the room to take center stage, creating a fresh, inviting space to relax by the fire. The unexpected combination of the terracotta accent wall and the gold, velvet, midcentury modern chairs quickly turned this space into a fun and refreshing place to hang out. A hand-carved, mango wood coffee table provides the perfect spot to play a game of cards, and the jute area rug adds texture underfoot.

In the adjoining bright and airy dining area, a large, custom-made canvas painting adds a pop of color next to a classic Tulip table and Wishbone chairs. And of course, we layered in plenty of greenery for added color and texture, improving the indoor air quality in the process. The light dining light fixture and fan got an update, too – no more 90s boob lights here!

If you’re interested in purchasing a print of that custom canvas art, it’s available in our Etsy shop. And don’t miss the before & after photo of this space on the blog!
