Before & After: Riad Connolly pt. 1

Let’s kick off the new year with a fun before & after story – of my house! Devin & I bought our 3 bed, 2 bath (“Riad Connolly”) in August of 2019, and we’ve been working hard to transform it into a Morocco-inspired, plant filled home, channeling our love of retro modern furniture and bohemian decor.

It’s easy to feel like progress is slow when you’re living through the transformation. But the other day, I came across the photos from the Zillow listing of our house before we purchased it, and HOLY CRAP. We’ve come a very long way.

So I thought I’d share a few photos with you, since everyone loves a good before & after!

Living Room

A fresh coat of deep green paint, a colorful rug we purchased in Morocco, comfy new furniture, and plenty of plants transformed this stark, dated room into a cozy space to cuddle up for a movie night (or a binge session of Schitt’s Creek, if we’re being honest). I’ve even started to like those weird built-in mirrors now that they feel more like they belong!

Entry & Dining

Behind the living room, the once-boring entryway and dining room are now filled with life and color, including a giant, custom painting by yours truly, which took me WAY too long to finish. And yes, that is carpet in the dining room. Gross, I know. It’ll go as soon as we have the time and budget to extend those original hardwoods!

Sitting Room

Probably my favorite transformation so far in our house. We painted that ugly brick, added a terracotta accent wall, and brought in some retro-looking furniture for the perfect golden pop to tie into that original fireplace detail. This is the spot where we typically curl up to read in front of the fire or play a round of cards with friends around the carved wood coffee table.

It’s still a work in progress, but we love it! I’ll be sure to share more as we work on our bedrooms and home office this year, and eventually the bathrooms and kitchen. To see more photos of Riad Connolly (named after a typical lodging option in Marrakech), you can check out the Global Greenhouse and Terracotta Cottage projects in my portfolio!

Cheers to a New Year!
