Before & After: Black Pebble Bathroom Remodel

Years ago, I worked with a client in the Pocket area of south Sacramento to select some paint colors for his kitchen and a few other areas of his home. While I was at his house, he showed me a potential future project – a guest bathroom remodel. I knew it would be an awesome before & after, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!

So when he asked to work together again early last year and start on the bathroom, I jumped at the chance. The strangely laid out floor plan and bulky, slightly sunken tub were just begging for a full gut job. So we got to work.

First up: the layout. I moved the toilet to a more logical location near the vanity. This allowed us to turn the tub/shower into a dramatic focal point as you walk into the room. This created a much more open and airy space without adding any additional square footage.

Can you believe this is the same angle??

I quickly found out that the client loved contemporary zen bathrooms, and wanted it to feel relaxing and spa-like. He also loved the warmth of natural wood next to cooler textures like concrete & stone. So I paired some gray, concrete-looking tiles with an ipe wood shower accent and flat black pebble floors to create an inviting and texture-filled space.

We also added a new floating vanity cabinet in a similar color to the ipe wood accent. The lifted cabinet adds to the more modern feel of the space, and we paired it with a lighted LED mirror for a minimal and clean look.

The client loves his new, contemporary guest bath and I couldn’t be happier with the end result! Here are a few more before & after shots. I’ll let the images speak for themselves. All of these are pretty much matched up to the same angle so you can see the dramatic changes side by side.
